Joasia Krysa has been appointed to be the new curator of the Helsinki Biennial, which will be running from June 12 to September 18 2023 on Vallisaari island.

The polish born curator that now resides in the UK has an extensive resume, she served as the artistic director for the Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark and has curated for Documenta 13 and the Liverpool Biennial.

Curating for the Helsinki Biennial, she seeks to encourage new alliances and exchanges within a very international panel of artists. "I am excited to join the Helsinki Biennial team to develop the second edition at what feels like an unprecedented point in time. The Biennial's specific location on and off the shore of the Gulf of Finland provides a unique context for activating practices and discussions in response to contemporary issues. Collaborating with others collectives, research organisations and other entities- I look forward to learning from shared experiences, contributing to developments in the city, and working towards qualitatively different futures." Krysa commented in the press release.

After a successful first edition in 2021, the Biennial will be coming back to the island of Vallisaari, in the Helsinki archipelago with the aim of furthering bonds between local Finnish artists and the international scene as well as engaging in broader topics related to the world we live in.
