Art Basel Qatar Announces Lineup for Its 2026 Inaugural Edition

Article
Art Basel Qatar has revealed the list of participating galleries for its first edition, set to take place from 5 to 7 February 2026 in Doha, with VIP days on 3-4 February. This fair will showcase Qatar’s cultural landscape, as well as the broader arts ecosystem of the MENA region.

The event will be held across two major venues, the M7 and the Doha Design District. Under the artistic direction of Doha-based artist Wael Shawky, Art Basel Qatar’s curatorial theme is “Becoming,” which Shawky describes as a “meditation on humanity’s constant transformation and the systems that shape how we live, believe, and create meaning.”

This first edition will feature 87 galleries, including 16 making their Art Basel debut. Among them are Hafez Gallery (of Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Gallery Misr (Cairo), Le Violon Bleu (Tunis, Tunisia), Saleh Barakat Gallery (Beirut), and Tabari Artspace (Dubai, UAE). They will join leading international galleries, such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner, alongside established regional galleries, including Athr Gallery, Green Art Gallery, Gypsum Gallery, Loft Art Gallery, and The Third Line.

Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel’s chief artistic officer and global director of fairs, emphasised the importance of including new galleries in the lineup. “With this first-year fair, we wanted to give a platform to galleries that otherwise would not have that platform,” he told ARTnews. He also said, “With approximately 50 percent of the artists coming from the MENASA region, there are going to be a lot of discoveries for many people, both for those from the region but especially those coming from abroad.”

According to de Bellis, this intergenerational aligns closely with Shawky’s vision, noting that the fair won’t be organised according to chronology, region, or medium.
