Since its establishment in 2009 by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the Future Generation Art Prize has supported the artistic growth and production of new works of over 100 artists, showcasing their work at the PinchukArtCentre.
Open to artists aged 35 or under from anywhere in the world and working in any medium, the Prize received over 12,000 entries from nearly 200 countries. From this pool, the final selection consists of 21 artists and artist collectives, spanning five continents. Previous Prize winners include Aziz Hazara (2021), Emilija Škarnulytė (2019), Dineo Seshee Bopape (2017).
The shortlisted artists will be commissioned to create new works, which will be displayed at exhibitions hosted by the PinchukArtCentre (from August 2024 to January 2025). The jury will then determine the main prize and special prize winners, with the awards ceremony scheduled for October 2024.
The main prize winner receives a total of US $100,000, with $60,000 in cash and a $40,000 investment in their artistic practice. An additional $20,000 in special prizes will be distributed to up to five artists chosen by the jury for supporting projects.
The jury is composed of Cecilia Alemani, Curator of The Milk of Dreams, 59th International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia (2022), Hou Hanru, Art critic and curator, former Artistic Director of MAXXI, National Museum of 21st Century Arts, Rome, Diane Lima, Independent curator, writer and is a key Black feminist voice in Brazilian contemporary art, Simon Njami, Independent curator, lecturer, art critic and novelist, Bjorn Geldhof, Artistic Director at the PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv), Alicia Knock, Curator, Head of the Contemporary Creation and Prospective Department at the Centre Pompidou, and Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung, Director and chief curator of Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
