The AWARE Prizes 2023 go to Rose Lowder and Louisa Babari

Article
Launched in 2016 by the Archives of Women Artists Research & Exhibitions (AWARE), these prizes recognise two female artists every year.

Born in 1941 in Lima, Rose Lowder is the winner of the Honorary Prize, an award dedicated to artists with careers spanning over 40 years. Lowder succeeds Laura Lamiel, last year’s prizewinner.

Louisa Babari, born in 1969 in Moscow, was granted the Nouveau Regard Prize, which is dedicated to artists in their mid-career. She comes after Myriam Minhindou, the 2022 laureate.

The jury of the 7th edition of the AWARE awards is chaired by Alexia Fabre, director of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, alongside a jury panel composed of Camille Morineau (co-founder and scientific director of AWARE), Joanna Mytkowska (director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw), Hélène Nguyen-Ban (founder of Docent), Émilie Renard (director of Bétonsalon – art and research centre), Béatrice Salmon (director of the Centre national des arts plastiques, Cnap, and Claire Tancons (curator).
