Continuing on the trend of art institutions diving into the murky world of NFTs.

This time it is the British Museum that has decided to launch digital postcards featuring paintings by the Japanese master Hokusai.

An exhibition dedicated to Hokusai will take place at the iconic London museum starting September 30 until January 2022. It will feature never before seen works that were made between 1820 and 1840 for an encyclopedia that has never been published. The exhibition will also show iconic works such as The Wave (1831), that everybody knows very well.

The public, as they visit the museum, will be able to buy the digital versions of the art they have seen.

This project has been set up in collaboration with La Collection, a French NFT platform that seeks at democratising art by combining art with technology. La Collection will get 3% of the sales, while the British Museum will earn 10%, the rest going to the owners of the works of art.
