One of America’s first not-for-profit, female-led, artist-run organisations, A.I.R. Gallery will be launching its first Feminist & Queer Art Book Fair on January 18 from 12pm to 7pm, at their exhibition space in Brooklyn.

Free to both participants and visitors, the fair “aims to offer space for artistic experimentation, prioritize feminist and queer histories, and facilitate intergenerational dialogue”. With a variety of publishers across different media and subjects coming together, the aim is to prompt the sharing of knowledge and a sense of community, “while celebrating the long history of A.I.R. artists who have been bookmakers working in language and form”, including the 1980 exhibition curated by Lucy Lippard, “Speaking Volumes”, which featured over 100 books by female-identifying artists, books and cards from which will be available at the fair.

Participating publishers and book artists, chosen for their close alignment with event’s mission, include Belladonna, Dancing Foxes Press, GenderFail, Litmus Press, MOMMY, Pinsapo Press, Precog Magazine, Siglio Press, Visual AIDS, WW3 Illustrated, and A.I.R. artists, with more to be announced.
