The noted art collector, who has featured along with wife Sheri on the ARTnews’ Top 200 Collectors list since 2016, had been considering running as a “centrist independent” candidate for presidency. He announced on Friday, however, that he was dropping out of the U.S. Presidential race amid fears that he may risk splitting a vote against Trump (whom Schultz wishes to see out of office), concerns around competition moderate Democrats would pose, and a back injury suffered in April.
