From November 30 to January 31, the 12th edition will take place of one of the pioneer events of contemporary creation from Africa and its diaspora. The theme of this year's Rencontres de Bamako is a reference to the first piece on Abdullah Ibrahim and Max Roach's jazz album, "STREAMS OF CONSCIOUSNESS", released in 1977.

The selection process was led by Bonaventure  Soh Bejeng Ndikung — founding exhibitions director at the SAVVY Contemporary space in Berlin, who was also notably part of the curatorial team for Documenta 14, followed by the Finnish Pavilion at the last Venice Biennale. In Bamako, he is supported by Aziza Harmel, Astrid Sokona Lepoultier, and Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh; artistic advisors Akinbode Akinbiyi and Seydou Camara; and scenographer Cheick Diallo.
