Traian Cherecheș works are coming up as reminders to that. In his sculptural assemblages of various non-organic structures and reused natural artifacts, Cherecheș explores the notions of environmental pollution and the idea of accumulated waste. The artist refers primarily to industrial mediums and focuses on the following recurring motifs: the Spine, the Volcano, and the Mask, examining the conditions of a contemporary consumptive world and the inner world of a being as a reaction to it.

The indoor/outdoor artist’s studio could be seen as an ongoing laboratory and the forum of experimentation. Having a multifaceted approach to the perception of reality, Cherecheș does not stop at one exceptional artistic medium, but explores several at the same time. Each medium is used by him as a 'tool' for a profound understanding of reality, displaying its hidden meanings, and for revealing the internal matter of the author. Through a series of his works, the artist calls himself first of all 'to orient through the chaos of existence and to signal about the uncertainty of the contemporary world and the world of the future'.

Considering himself as a 'process' artist and looking to the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century for inspiration, especially to Dada and Surrealism (not to forget the works of the Romanian and Israeli artist Marcel Janco), Cherecheș turns to the use of automatic writing techniques, plunging into a certain state of self-hypnosis and trance. He is thereby making up the trajectory of the development of his works in the form of automatic drawings, further embodied in the physical shape.

His later installations made of organic and inorganic materials undergo cyclical significant metamorphoses in a constantly reproduced process of creation. Once assembled, they are doomed to transformation and destruction, which further serve as the basis for subsequent rebirth. Time-based experiences are seen as 'traces' of the artist’s presence. Referring ourselves to the traditional psychoanalysis, the found objects and their displacements in the physical space by the artist are perceived as receivers of both love and hate and are seen as projections of the creative, life-producing drives and at the same time of the drive toward destruction and death, consequently representing the circle of life and its duality, the exploration of relationships between external and internal forces.
