Kapwani Kiwanga will represent Canada at the 2024 Venice Biennale

Kapwani Kiwanga will be the first ever black woman to represent Canada at Venice Biennale.

The Ontario born artist, who these days works in Paris, is known for her use of various mediums, ranging from photography, sculpture, video, performance art and all the way to floral arrangements. Kapwani Kiwanga has a real knack for research and her art has been significantly impacted by her studies in anthropology and the knowledge of indigenous cultures she has gained living in first nation territories of Ontario.

 

The artist won the Prix Marcel Duchamp in 2020. In 2022 she exhibited her work at The New Museum.

 

The Venice Biennale is set to start in April of 2024.
