In partnership with Paris’ Cité Internationale des Arts, the non-profit organisation Art Explora is launching a new residency for artists and researchers of all ages and nationalities, with a living grant and production expenses provided.

Founded in 2019, Art Explora hope the new residency will put into action founder Frédéric Jousset’s belief in the power of culture to create dialogue and to reinforce social cohesion. The programme’s annual cohort of 20 residents, composed of artists either working solo or in collaboration with a researcher, will each present a project on the theme of scientific and technological exploration, questioning the relationship between art and science.

The selection committee, comprising Vinciane Despret (philosopher of science, Professor at the University of Liège and the Université Libre de Bruxelles), Koyo Kouoh (Executive Director and Chief Curator of Zeitz MOCAA), Christine Macel (Chief Curator and Head of the Contemporary Art and Prospective Creation Department at the Pompidou Centre), Hans-Ulrich Obrist (Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries), Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez (independent curator, editor and writer) and Phillipe Vergne (Director of the Serralves Foundation), will be looking for participants who take into account the social and ecological challenges we face today to think about tomorrow’s world.

The first residency session is due to begin in March 2021 at the Cité Internationale des Arts. Applications are open until November 6, 2020.
