In New York a few days ago, Patrizia Sandretto was given the Leo Award by Independent Curators International (ICI), following in the footsteps of Marian Goodman, Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and Dasha Zhukova.

The collector, President of the Turin foundation (a branch of which will soon be opening at the Matadero in Madrid, building a bridge to the Latin American market), has made the space a stronghold of contemporary international creation.

The space announced today that it is launching its ArtColLab project, aiming to pair "young artists with leaders from the fields of fashion, design and gastronomy to create one-of-a-kind pieces". As the first participants in the project, "British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood and Canadian contemporary artist Paul Kneale have collaborated on the design of three limited edition women’s shoes".

Silvio Salvo, Head of Communication at the institution, explained to us, "given the importance of sustainability in this project, we have compiled a list of designers who put the same impact on sustainable materials and practices and we aim to work with most of them in the future".

The artists will be selected by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Olga Re Rebaudengo and Eugenio Re Rebaudengo, with an idea to pursue collaborations with artists who have previously exhibited at the foundation. "In the case of our first collaboration between Paul and Nicholas, it was a perfect match as Nicholas has been collecting Paul’s work for a few years and they have become friends in the process," commented Silvio Salvo, "so it was clear to us that they have a lot in common and could produce a unique product!"

So what's next? "We can’t yet announce the names, but we are working on a female collaboration for the next project, that involves international designer and artist".
