What Is America’s Relationship with Humanities and the Arts?

A survey conducted in autumn 2019 as part of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ “Human Indicators” project has revealed how Americans perceive and engage with different disciplines within the humanities, including the arts.

Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a representative sample of 5,015 American adults (aged 18 and above) were quizzed on their engagement with the humanities in everyday life, their view of humanities, exposure to the humanities during childhood and humanities in the workplace.
