Sunday Art Fair | Four names in emerging creation

Across the world, in parallel with the major contemporary art shows that are Art Basel, the Armory Show, the FIAC and the Frieze, events dedicated to emerging artists are capturing the attention of more and more collectors each year.

The Sunday Art Fair, for instance, is taking place until Sunday at the University of Westminster in London.

A significant turnover has led to the participation of newcomers making up 50% of the 30 galleries present this year. Less than 10 minutes from Regent’s Park, the fair now run by the Supplement Gallery offers a snapshot of new talent, and has been attracting an increasing number of collectors and institutions since its début in 2015. Booths at the fair cost approximately £2,500 – a manageable fee for younger galleries – and the relaxed vibe is appreciated by all.

We present our selection of not-to-be-missed galleries below:

Evie O’Connor | ltd los angeles

The California-based gallery is exhibiting six young female artists at its booth, in an exhibition centred around portrait, entitled “They’re foxy to me, are they foxy to you?”. As the Associate Director Kate Eringer explained to us, “Sunday is our last fair of 2018. We enjoy its laid back atmosphere and the exposure offered to the artists.”

Emily Ludwig Shaffer | Pact

Returning for the second time, the Parisian gallery has praised “a fair which is never over-crowded, even on the preview day”, as well as the quality of visitors, including a selection of ”English, French, American and German curators, foundation directors and collectors” who last year brought the gallery “some excellent deals and even an order for the monumental work by the artist we were presenting, Dorian Gaudin.”

Jonathan Lux | Ribot Gallery

After its opening in Milan three years ago, having participated in Miart and Artissima, the gallery is now trying out this fair for the first time. Ribot felt the need to “expand our research beyond the national territory and, at the moment, we consider London as one of the most important points of reference for contemporary art.” They will notably be exhibiting the paintings of American artist Jonathan Lux (b.1976).

The Leipzig-based gallery has returned this year with an exhibition bringing together the works of Sebastian Burger, Wilhelm Klotzek, Sophie Reinhold and Oskar Schmidt.
