A new record for Bacon?

Seven years after the $29.7m record for a piece in the series set by the 1954 work Untitled (Pope), Sotheby's will put Study for a Head (1952) up for sale in New York in May, with an estimated value of between $20m and $30m.

The piece will be on sale as part of the Richard E. Lang and Jane Lang Davis collection, featuring works by Alberto Giacometti, Hans Hofmann, Willem de Kooning, Philip Guston and Adolph Gottlieb.

The record for a Francis Bacon work was set in 2013 by the 1969 piece Three Studies of Lucian Freud (in 3 parts), which sold for $142.4m. Read further via Artnews.
