Art Dubai appoints a new Director
In the wake of former Director Myrna Ayad’s departure, the fair has announced the appointment of their new Director, Chloe Vaitsou, who will work “in tandem” with Artistic Director Pablo del Val.
Previously Head of Audience Development at the Frieze, Chloe Vaitsou joins Art Dubai in a complicated time for the fair, which has fallen victim to the upheaval within the Abraaj Group – up until now their principal sponsors. The group has in fact just begun a deep restructuring. More information available via The Art Newspaper.
Christie’s | $40m for a Paris-period Van Gogh
“The two years that Van Gogh spent in Paris, from March 1886 until February 1888, represent a pivotal period in his career, during which he assimilated a host of diverse artistic currents and forged a deeply personal style. With its range of creative influences, from pointillism to Japanese prints, the present painting exemplifies the experimental zeal of the era. Van Gogh’s Coin de jardin avec papillons is a key example of his innovative and radical style”, explained David Kleiweg de Zwaan – Senior Specialist in Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie’s – when the announcement was made that the work would be put up for sale.
Dating from 1887, the painting will be seen at auction for the first time on November 11. Read further via Art Market Monitor.
