Sotheby’s “Rembrandt to Richter” evening sale in London this July 28 saw Banksy’s Mediterranean Sea View (2017) triptych scoop £2,235,000, almost doubling its upper estimation of £1.2m.

Sold with a certificate of authenticity, the three works by the renowned street artist were donated by Banksy himself, having previously hung in his Walled Off hotel in Bethlehem. The triptych depicts three seascapes which the artist reworked to include life jackets and buoys, in response to the international migrant crisis.

The proceeds of the sale will go towards the construction of a new acute stroke unit and purchasing children’s rehabilitation equipment for Bethlehem’s BASR.
