Marian Goodman Gallery Initiative creates new opportunities for BIPOC curators

Article
In honour of the late curator, art critic, writer, poet, educator and champion of African art Okwui Enwezor, Marian Goodman Gallery are launching a new initiative, conceived by Steve McQueen, to create professional development and research opportunities with Independent Curators International (ICI) for Black, Indigenous and People of Colour curators.

The first phase of the Marian Goodman Gallery Initiative will see ICI develop in Africa one Curatorial Intensive – a professional development program for 12-14 emerging curators – and two Curatorial Research Fellowships annually for the next three years.

“I hope with all my heart that this initiative can help to bring about a shift – and, of course, I wish that Okwui were still here to guide us,” said Marian Goodman. “As the gallery navigates these momentous times, it is important to start to address the imbalance and injustice that is embedded in the gallery and museum system. We are proud to partner with ICI to move towards these goals of change.”
