The decision is a brave one, risking a shortage of its usual American audience due to coronavirus travel bans, and breaking away from the onslaught of cancellations and uncertainty for other major fairs such as Art Basel and Frieze London.
“We are working on the organisation of Fiac 2020 from 21-25 October at the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais and in the Hors les Murs sites,” FIAC director Jennifer Flay and head of collectors and institutional relations Charlotte Arson said in an email. “As the situation in France gradually returns to normal and the clouds slowly lift on the horizon, it is our conviction that the values that underlie our identity as an art fair — interpersonal exchanges and first-hand, real-life contact with artworks — are more important than ever."
An exhibitor list has yet to be announced.
This edition will be the last to be held in the Grand Palais before 2023. In 2021 and 2022, the fair will take place in a temporary structure next to the Eiffel Tower.
