In the onslaught of institution closures and event cancellations in the art world and beyond, Frieze is the latest to announce that its ninth edition of the New York fair would no longer be taking place.

Due to take place at Randall’s Island Park from May 7 to 10, it joins major international art fairs including Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Cologne and Art Dubai in having to reschedule in light of global health concerns regarding the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We are so grateful to the galleries in the fair who were planning extraordinary presentations and we are of course very disappointed that the strength of the 2020 program could not come to fruition,” global director of Frieze fairs Victoria Siddall and director of Frieze New York Loring Randolph said in a statement. “However, the health and safety of everyone involved in the event remains our top priority, and we appreciate all the measures being put in place to keep the community safe.” Siddall and Randolph also asked the public to stay tuned for updates and confirmed that the fair’s satellite event, Frieze Sculpture at Rockefeller Center, will be moved to the summer.

The pair confirmed that the fair’s satellite event at the Rockefeller Center, Frieze Sculpture, would also be rescheduled for the summer.
