Iazzu | The new app strengthening relationships between art organisations and their audiences

Article
Swiss art-technology company, iazzu, has launched a new app tailored towards expanding the audiences of galleries, artists and collectors by providing a more personal online service.

With claims that “iazzu businesses who have branded apps have seen an increase in sales”, iazzu’s unique approach could revolutionise the relationship between art institutions and their clientele.

Romana Müller, iazzu co-founder and CEO, explained: “We support galleries, institutions, artists and collectors with their digital presence, as well as assist in the management and expansion of their exhibitions and collections through innovative technologies.”

In the custom app, personalised with the art organisation’s colours and logo, iazzu provides a solution to one of the biggest obstacles in purchasing art – “How will the artwork look on my wall? – through its augmented reality feature which allows the user to visualise how a piece will look in their own home or office space.

The app also facilitates more direct interaction between art vendors and their audiences through tools such as push notifications about upcoming exhibitions or sales, and an in-app chat, establishing a real-time, one on one communication crucial to this “era of hyper-personalisation”. A currency calculator updated daily, a measurement unit converter, and an algorithm that learns art preferences add to the user-friendly features.

Available on iOS and Android in English, Spanish, German and French, the app differs from previous expensive gallery apps, on the market for an initial installation fee and subsequent monthly subscription (minimum 12 months) costing just a few hundred Swiss Francs; it does not take commission on sales. Unlike marketplaces such as Artsy, the iazzu app privileges the art institution as opposed to individual artworks, encouraging users’ loyalty to particular galleries.

The app has been commended by the École Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne as ‘Swiss app of the month’ and was awarded a three-month residency in Vienna by the Vienna Business Agency, before becoming available in April this year. Read more about the app here.
