Photographer Daido Moriyama awarded one of the most prestigious prizes

Following in the footsteps of Oscar Muñoz, the Japanese photographer has won the prestigious Hasselblad Award 2019, with $110,000 prize-money, given out by the foundation based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Born in 1938, Daido Moriyama won over the jury, led by Paul Roth – director at the Ryerson Image Centre in Toronto –, with his highly subjective but authentic approach. Amongst previous winners of the prize are Cindy Sherman, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Wolfgang Tillmans and Malick Sidibé. More information available via the British Journal of Photography.
