Prouvost’s film was congratulated by the jury as a “profound essayistic reflection on the freedom of art”, able to stage a “transition of a popular contemporary internet technique to the big screen”. If It Was also won the second Jury of the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of North Rhine-Westphalia prize at Oberhausen this year.
Prouvost was the principal prize winner at the 57th edition of the Oberhausen festival. The artist was also the recipient of the biennial MaxMara Art Prize for Women in 2011 and the Turner Prize in 2013. Her work was shown at Tate Britain and at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London, as well as at the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
In 2014, Prouvost had her first solo exhibition at the New Museum in New York. This fall, her work will be on show at the Pirelli HangarBicocca foundation in Milan.
