Calvert 22 Foundation to launch new photography prize for Eastern European photography

The Calvert 22 Foundation has announced the creation of a new photo award, The New East Photo Prize. The award is open to creators from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Russia and Central Asia in an effort to enrich perceptions of the area and advance understanding.

The winner will receive the opportunity to publish a body of work as a photo book, produced by the Calvert Foundation, whilst a Special Prize will be awarded to an unfinished documentary project with a £1000 grant to go towards the completion of the work. The shortlisted finalists will exhibit at the london-based Calvert 22 Foundation space with the winners to be announced in December.

Members of the jury include: Kate Bush, Head of Photography at Media Space/Science Museum and the National Media Museum; Donald Weber, Photographer, Recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Lange-Taylor Prize and two World Press Photo Awards; Taus Makhacheva, Artist, Winner of the 6th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art Foundation Prize; Roger Tooth, Head of Photography at the Guardian and the Observer; Ekow Eshun, Creative Director at Calvert 22 Foundation, former Director of ICA London; Marina Paulenka, Founder and Director of Organ Vida international photography festival Croatia, and the Organ Vida Photography Association; Alexander Gronsky, Photographer, Recipient of the Aperture Portfolio Prize and the World Press Photo 3rd place award for Daily Life stories and Olga Osipova, Photo editor of Bird In Flight, previously worked for The New Times, Lenta.ru, Kommersant, Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography.
