The Jameel Prize 4 awarded to Ghulam Mohammad

Article
On June 7, Pakistani artist Ghulam Mohammad was awarded the biennial Jameel Prize 4 by the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Jameel Art Foundation. Mohammad was chosen from 280 applicants, of which 12 finalists were selected to exhibit their work at the Pera Museum in Istanbul through August 14. The artist will receive a £25,000 cash prize.

It was the artist’s five paper collages that convinced the jury: Mohammed collected second-hand books, laboriously cutting out letters to create collages, giving new meaning to each letter. In a statement released by the V&A Museum, the jury said that they were “particularly moved by the paradox between the intensity and the modesty of his collages.”
