Project Art - The Social Arts Market, a new online marketplace dedicated to artists, curators, institutions, galleries and patrons, launched earlier this month. Based on social interaction and “crowd curation”, the platform allows users to exhibit their work, discover new artists and sell or buy art.

Conceived as an altogether “new art market model,” according to founder Johannes Fröhlich, the platform aims to bring artists and art enthusiasts together, creating the first truly democratic art market, based on user interaction and evolving trends, rather than on the choices of gallerists and dealers. Founded by art enthusiasts Fröhlich and Clemens Hackl, Project Art styles itself as a more inclusive 2.0 market, able to “give artists worldwide a platform to showcase their work and increase their exposure to a global audience of art enthusiasts and collectors,” says Fröhlich.

The platform also aims at increasing the accessibility of art to both new and seasoned collectors: “We'd like to think that our different and fresh approach makes Project Art very appealing to art newcomers, who are interested in discovering exciting emerging art,” says Fröhlich. “With the way the world is developing and people often being time poor our approach and technology makes Project Art an interesting platform. We think these features make it an exciting prospect for established collectors as well,” he continues.

Project Art’s collaborative model offers a solution to the limits of online galleries and art fairs. Driven by their desire to support younger talent, Project Art has also launched a competition in collaboration with ARTROOMS 2017, calling users to vote for the artists to be exhibited at the next edition of the fair.
