Prix Meurice for contemporary art announces shortlisted artists

The shortlist for the prestigious Prix Meurice for contemporary art, created in 2008, has been announced. Six artists and their galleries are in the running for the €20,000 prize.

Katinka Bock, represented by Galerie Jocelyn Wolff; Julien Discrit, Galerie Anne-Sarah Bénichou; Lola Gonzalez, Galerie Marcelle Alix; Angelica Mesiti, Galerie Allen; Moussa Sarr, VNH Gallery and Thu Van Tran from Galerie Meessen de Clercq have been selected by the jury. The winner will be announced a week before the FIAC in October and the prize money is to be divided between the artist and their gallery.

The jury for the 2016/17 edition of the prize is composed of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, designer and patron of the Prix Meurice; Montserra Aguer, Director of the center for Dalinian studies; Colette Barbier, Director of the Fondation Ricard; Saadane Afif, winner of last year’s Prix Meurice; Mehdi Chouakri, gallerist to Saadane Afif; Nicolas Bourriaud, former director of Paris Beaux-Arts; Philippe Dagen, writer and professor at the Sorbonne; Jennifer Flay, Director of the FIAC; Marta Gili, Director of the Jeu de Paume; Jean de Loisy, President of the Palais de Tokyo; Henri Loyrette, Conseiller d’Etat; Franka Holtmann; Director of the Hotel Le Meurice and Maryvonne Pinault, collector.

The Prix Meurice aims to provide patronage to the artists of today and to provide a platform for international visibility. Previous laureates include Mark Geffriaud and his gallery gb agency in 2014 and Neïl Beloufa and Balice Hertling in 2013.
