Indian painter Sayed Haider Raza passed away aged 94 last Friday in New Delhi.

HAPPENINGWidely regarded as one of India's most successful artists, Raza was a founding member of "Bombay Progressive Artists' Group" which he created in 1947 with F.N. Souza and M.F. Husain. Since its establishment, the group has revolutionized both Indian and Modern art.

Raza's geometrical and abstract paintings have always been characterized by a vibrant energy. From the 70s onwards, Raza began developing his characteristic "bindu" style, which brought him international notoriety.
In the 50s, he moved to Paris, where he spent most of his life – despite often saying that he had never really left his country. In 2010, the painter moved back to India following the death of his wife.

Prices for Raza's work have skyrocketed over the years, and in 2010 his work Saurashtra (1983) was bought by indian collector Kiran Nadar for $ 3,51 million at an auction held by Christie’s in London.
