Galeria Jaqueline Martins gets new São Paulo space

Article
After five years at its space in the Pinheiros district of São Paulo, Brazilian gallery Jaqueline Martins is moving to a larger, more central location at Rua Dr Cesário Mota Júnior, 443 - Vila Buarque.

“The ideas literally wouldn’t fit in our storage units anymore,” said the gallery in a statement, who explained that they decided to move in order to “expand the collection of over a thousand works of art, amongst which are documents, publications, photographs and installations.”

Galeria Jaqueline Martins was opened in 2011 and has developed its program focused around artistic production from the Brazilian military period during the 1970s and 1980s with importance placed on research-oriented conceptualist practices. The gallery’s roster of artists includes local and international artists including Bill Lundberg, Hudinilson Urbano Jr, Lydia Okumura and Letícia Parente. In 2015 the gallery won the prize for the most innovative stand at Frieze New York with a solo show of work by Brazilian artist Martha Araújo.

The new 6458 sq ft  gallery space will be inaugurated on September 2, opening with a solo show of work by British artist Stuart Brisley (1933). The gallery has also announced its participation in a number of European fairs in the coming months including Paris Internationale and Frieze London.
