Tel-Aviv’s Sommer Gallery to open in Zurich

Article
Sommer Gallery, based in Tel-Aviv since 1999, has announced plans to open a new office in Zurich in September.

Originally from Switzerland, Irit Fine Sommer has thus decided to move to Zurich with his family, whilst theTel-Aviv-based gallery will be directed by Tamar Zagursky, who has been at Sommer since 2006.

The new space will not host original exhibitions however, a representative has explained that “temporary exhibitions is but an element of the gallery’s overall activity.” The Zurich outpost will allow the Israeli gallery to “promote European artists, develop and strengthen our relationship with a number of key institutions, curators and collectors and to stay alert to the opportunities opening up to the artists we represent.”

Among the artists represented by Sommer are some of the world’s leading creatives: Saâdane Afif, Wolfgang Tillmans, Ugo Rondinone, Yael Bartana et Guy Ben-Ner, Tal R or Efrat Shvily. Sommer Gallery is also the owner of S2 — a project space allowing young curators to organize exhibitions by emerging artists.

From September 8 through October 20, the gallery will feature a solo exhibition by Israeli artist Lihi Turjeman (1985).
