Art Cologne opens up to new talent

Article
The world’s oldest art fair, Art Cologne, is opening its doors up to up and coming talent. A new section of the fair, entitled Neumarkt will launch in 2017 for the 51st edition of the fair in a bid to provide a new platform for young galleries, principally those that have existed for less than 10 years.

The name comes from a satellite fair that took place alongside Art Cologne during the 1960 called NEUMARKT der Künste. The aim of the section is to provide “a cost-effective and focused platform and reduce the overall risk young galleries face today,” says Daniel Hug, director of Art Cologne. Participants are yet to be announced as applications to Neumarkt will remain open until October 25. Galleries can apply to either a 20m2 stand in which they may exhibit a solo show, a 30m2 stand in order to exhibit two or three artists together, or a 40m2 stand for joint gallery presentations.

Daniel Hug has been congratulated for breathing new life into a very old art fair, and this news will be welcomed by those who have enjoyed seeing the fair adapt to the ever-changing art market.
