New Museum’s Cultural Incubator to Host RES: The Future “Michelin Guide” of Artists Residencies

Article
It remains difficult for artists to find a residency that meets their needs, and harder still to find up-to-date information about residency opportunities collected in one place.

It’s with this in mind that Rate My Artist Residency was created, which, together with China Residencies and Residency Unlimited, has developed a new platform that informs artists about the best residency opportunities available — and the traps to avoid.

The project, christened RES, will develop within NEW INC — the cultural incubator of the New Museum in New York aimed at supporting “innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship across art, design and technology.” RU Opportunities, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit offering the latest information about artists’ residencies across the globe, managed to raise $10,000 through a Kickstarter campaign. RU Opportunities’ co-founder and Director of Operations Sebastien Sanz de Santamaria met with Katrina Neumann, the creator of Rate My Artist Residency. After having come to an agreement that the aims of their respective platforms were aligned, they decided to unite. When the duo were joined by the co-founder and Executive Director of China Residencies Kira Simon-Kennedy, the fledgling platform was given the potential for international reach.

“Each team member brings unique factors, experiences, and perspectives to the table and each of our skill-sets will play key roles in the development of this new initiative.”
