Mexico City’s Material Art Fair reveals ambitious plans for its 2018 edition

Article
The Zona Maco satellite fair, one of the world’s leading art events dedicated to emerging artists next to LISTE and Paris Internationale, has announced major changes for its 2018 edition.

Opening on February 8, 2018, the fair’s 5th edition will take place in a new location in Frontón México, a 1929 Art Deco building and events venue in Colonia Tabacalera.

Material Art Fair will also welcome an increased number of galleries — 75 as compared to 50 in 2017 — including newcomers 315 Gallery, Brooklyn, New York’s Callicoon Fine Arts, Paris’s Gaudel de Stampa and Berlin’s Supportico Lopez. As for local galleries, veterans such as Lulu, Labor and joségarcía ,mx will show alongside first-time participant Galería Agustina Ferreyra LLC. (Mexico City and San Juan)

Speaking to ARTnews of a possible future expansion, fair co-founder Brett Schutz has said “there’s a lot more work that needs to be done here, not only in terms of continuing to strengthen the fair but also in terms of strengthening Mexico City’s contemporary art community in general”.
