Article
The third edition of the New York iteration of the African art fair 1:54 is to take place between 5 and 7 May, running concurrently to Frieze fair. Returning to Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the fair, organised by Touria El Glaoui has just announced its 2017 lineup.

Just 19 galleries will be participating this year, half the number of exhibitors compared to the London edition of the fair. This small intake is quite standard for the New York edition, however the participant list is vastly different to last year. Newcomers include 50 Golborne and Ed Cross Fine Art from London; Gallery 1957, Accra, Ghana; MOV’ART Gallery, Luanda, Angola; ROOM Gallery & Projects, Johannesburg, South Africa; Rosenfeld Porcini, London; Taymour Grahne Gallery, New York; Tyburn Gallery, London; Vigo Gallery, London and VOICE Gallery Marrakech, Morocco.

The Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui who passed away last year during a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso will be featured by VOICE.  Curator Koyo Kouoh from the RAW Material Company in Dakar is to take charge of1:54 FORUM, the fair’s talks programme.

Full details of the upcoming fair can be found on the 1:54 website.
