Warhol’s creations continue to be the most lucrative in the world for the third year running, significantly ahead of painters Pablo Picasso, whose works realised €376 million at auction in 2014, and Francis Bacon - €256 million.
In 2014, the American-born artist sold 1,295 works of art. These highly-recognised pieces include Triple Elvis (1963) of the king of pop, sold for €68.6 million, and Marlons (1966) of Marlon Brando, sold for €58.3 million.
In total, works of art sold at auction generated more than €13 billion in revenue in 2014, an increase of 10% from 2013.
