Andy Warhol is the most sought-after artist of 2014

The king of Pop Art dominated the market in 2014. Works of art by Andy Warhol sold at auction realised more than €547 million over the last year.

Warhol’s creations continue to be the most lucrative in the world for the third year running, significantly ahead of painters Pablo Picasso, whose works realised €376 million at auction in 2014, and Francis Bacon - €256 million.

In 2014, the American-born artist sold 1,295 works of art. These highly-recognised pieces include Triple Elvis (1963) of the king of pop, sold for €68.6 million, and Marlons (1966) of Marlon Brando, sold for €58.3 million.

In total, works of art sold at auction generated more than €13 billion in revenue in 2014, an increase of 10% from 2013.
