1:54, African hour in Brooklyn

1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair has announced a New York pop-up taking place this Spring.

1:54 NY will take up residence in Brooklyn at Pioneer Works for Art and Innovation from 15 to 17 May 2015, during Frieze Week in New York (taking place from 14 to 17 May).

The fair is the first contemporary African art fair to expand beyond the borders of the continent. Two editions have already taken place in London in October 2013 and 2014. The name of art fair takes the number 1 in reference to the African continent as a unit, and 54 refers from the total number of countries.

Touria El Glaoui, Founding Director of 1:54 and daughter of the renowned Moroccan painter Hassan El Glaoui, will be the driving force behind the New York edition. Conferences and meetings will be organized by the Cameroon artistic curator Koyo Kouoh.
