A kooky project for an Antarctica bienniale

​The least populated, southernmost continent in the world could host its first art biennale in the Antarctic 2016.
This is the extreme and slightly eccentric project proposed by artist Alexander Ponomarev and curator Nadim Sammam.

“It will bring together scientists and artists on vessels around Antarctica to define a new Antarctic culture beyond institutional missions,” says Samman, conservationist at the TBA21-Academy in Vienna. Apart from a community of researchers, the continent is visited by a very small number of tourists – amassing around 26,000 a year.

In 2014 the young Doctor in history of art, graduate of the Courtauld Institute, was the curator of the Antarctica Pavillion at the 14th Biennale of Architecture in Venice, this being the first step in his unique biennale project.
