The Courtauld Gallery to inagurate its new space with long-unseen drawings

Article
January 15, 2015, the Courtauld Gallery London opened its new space, the Gilbert and Ildiko Butler Drawings Gallery, with an inaugural exhibition entitled “Unseen” running until March 23, featuring works that have not been on display at the institution for the last 20 years.
The new space will host around 7,000 works including drawings by Michelangelo and Rembrandt. The expansion was made possible by a generous $75,000 donation by American philanthropist Gilbert Butler and his wife Ildiko; the space was designed by Witherford Watson Mann Architects, winners of the 2013 Stirling Prize. The Drawings Gallery will feature a rotating exhibition program which will serve as a platform for research and experimentation with exhibitions focusing on the renaissance and self-portraits planned for the coming year.
