AMMD takes a look at visitor and finance statistics

Article
The Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) has announced in a press release that 61 million people have visited museums that form part of their group in America, Canada and Mexico in 2014.

The study carried out with the participation of 220 member museums showed that this level of frequentation is relatively stable. Furthermore, concerning the financing of these institutions, whilst entry fees contribute a mere 7% to their budgets, an interesting statistic is revealed from the study. Whereas a visitor spends on average $8 on a museum visit (access to many institutions is free, but the revenue brought in by gift shops, bookstores and restaurants is also taken into account), it costs the institution on average $53 to host each visitor.
