Canada Council honors artists

Canada Council for the Arts has announced the winners of the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts in 2015.

“The Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts were established 15 years ago to recognize Canada's leading visual artists and arts supporters," said governor General David Johnston. Every year, up to seven artists are recognized for their artistic talents, with an extra prize for “exceptional contribution to the visual arts and contemporary media.” Each will receive a cash prize of $25,000.

Paul McClure, jewellery artist, Toronto (Saidye Bronfman Award)

Robert Houle, visual artist, Toronto

Micah Lexier, visual artist, Toronto

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, media artist, Montreal

Sandra Meigs, painter, Victoria

Rober Racine, visual artist, writer and composer, Montreal

Reva Stone, new media artist, Winnipeg
