Sculpture stolen turns up in the museum’s toilets

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs was closed for the afternoon of January 11, following the theft of a solid bronze sculpture by Flemish-born artist Giambologna. In an interesting turn of events, the work, dating back to the 16th century and valued between €300,000 to €400,000, was found in the museum toilets.

Once the piece was reported missing all visitors were searched for the 11-pound sculpture, leading some to speculate that upon seeing this procedure the thief stashed the sculpture in the toilets in order to leave.

The event took place under very similar circumstances to the stolen Medardo Rosso bust at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome in December 2014 in which the item in question turned up in a public storage locker.
