Major retrospective of Marina Abramović in Sydney 2016

Article
A major retrospective of the performance artist Marina Abramović is programmed in Sydney at the Museum of Contemporary Art next year.

Marina Abramović, who has been active for the past 40 years, will exhibit a retrospective of her performances, installations, videos and photographs. Visitors can rediscover famous performances by the artist, notably Rhythm O (1974), where Abramović becomes the plaything for six hours, inviting the public to do as they please with her body using honey, a rose, a razor and a loaded pistol. In Nude with Skeleton (2004) the artist lays flat, naked, with a skeleton lying on top of her. A retrospective of her performances from the beginning of the 1970’s to her last performances will be visible in Sydney.

Rachel Kent, Exhibition Curator, revealed that this will be the first time that the public can rediscover the work of Abramović in its entirety, both solo performances and those with her former lover and collaborator, Ulay.

For those who cannot wait until 2016, Abramović will be in Sydney from June 2015, invited by arts philanthropist John Kaldor for a performance at Sydney Pier 2/3.
