CHOICES: 2nd edition

Article
The second edition of CHOICES, Collectors Weekend is almost upon us, taking place from May 29 to 31.

3 days, 40 galleries, 6 districts and one collective exhibition at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

Happening scans the scene :
This artistic tour through Paris meanders from Belleville to Saint-Germain-des-Prés, looping through the Marais and the Palais Royal stretching down to rue Louise Weiss and reaching up to Pantin. The event is divided in two: the monographic exhibitions at the participating galleries themselves and “CHOICES” at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris (Paris’ School of Fine Arts), where an artist chosen by each gallery is displayed. Alfred Pacquement is to curate this year’s “CHOICES” which will be held at the Palais des Etudes at the heart of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

What to look out for…
Galerie Isabelle Gounod located in Paris’ Marais area is to present the work of Eric Rondepierre at Beaux-Arts, an actor and visual artist whose research centres around cinematographic devices. At the gallery itself one will find Iranian photographer Jalal Sepehr who has forged a link between History and the modern world thanks to a Persian tapestry.

Imane Farès gallery in Saint-Germain-des-Prés will invite us to discover photographer and filmmaker Sammy Baloji. Through his series "Congo Far West" (2008), the artist references the Belgian scientific expedition to Katanga from 1898 to 1900. Somewhere between a historical account and an ethnographic dimension, Baloji invites us to take a look at the Colonial period.
