Little detour via Delhi

Article
Delhi celebrates a week of overlapping artistic events across the town. With India Art Fair’s 7th edition (January 29 - February 1) drawing to a close, the desertion of many foreign galleries becomes apparent with the exception of the unyielding Baudoin Lebon.

Thanks to curator Girish Sahane and a strong concentration of galleries displaying their top-notch artists, this year was an illuminating success in comparison to 2014’s rather disappointing event.

A must-see

But Delhi continues on. Peter Nagy from Nature Morte curates Mrinalini Mukherjee’s retrospective "Transfigurations" at the National Gallery of Modern Art of Delhi (NGMA) until March 29. The museum has been promoting contemporary Indian art for the past two years. The positive reviews of the erotic retrospective formed around sculpted cord and bronze was unfortunately overshadowed by the death of the 65-year old artist on February 2.

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts of Delhi is currently showing "Folk Archive" organized by the British Council. The exhibition stars British artists Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane, who display their 6-year visual account of contemporary popular culture in Great Britain. The result is an amalgamation of drawing, painting, film, performance and political humor across the country and ending in London. The exhibition is on display until February 27.

Threshold Gallery presents artist-sculptor Achia Anzi, who has been residing in India for more than ten years. Until February 24, "Land of Nod" explores the angle of migration patterns, which flourishes within the space by galerist Tunty Chauhan.

Swiss craze

And finally Delhi's highlight of the week! As is the same every year, our choice of stand is that of our generous Swiss friends, Linus Von Castelmur and Françoise Gardies. The Swiss Embassy celebrate their involvement with the fair offering a festive raclette and specialty cured meat from the Swiss region.

Their stand quickly becomes a who's who of the Indian art scene, with around 800 in attendance. Here are some of those famous faces: Rashid Rana, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Nada Raza, Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane, Sonia Kourana, Baudoin Lebon and Judith Peyrat, Pablo Bartlolomew, Sanarth Banerjee, Adytia Pande, the Pro Helvetia team, Ravi Agarwal, Bani Abidi, Seher Shah and Sunitha Kumar Emmart…
