Paris (est une fête) Internationale

Article
Following the success of its first edition, Paris Internationale is going ever further this year. The fair’s secret is simple: it is younger and more accessible than FIAC, and at the same time more exciting and of higher quality than most of its competitors.

For its 2016 edition, Paris Internationale will take over a stunning 3000-square-meter space in a hôtel particulier in Paris’ 16ème arrondissement — previously owned by art collector Calouste Gulbenkian - a crazy place.

But Paris Internationale is a fragmented fair. The offerings are eclectic, even overwhelming for some, and very few venture to the fair’s utmost corners in order to discover the truly interesting pieces. Those that do take the time to roam the labyrinthine hôtel particulier are sure to find their niche.

This year the fair boats 60 participants from 19 countries— 53 of which are galleries and the remaining 7 non-profit spaces — 20 more in comparison to last year. Visitors are able to discover the most charming corners of the building itself. Galleries stands range hugely in cost from 2,000 to 8,000 euros. As the art fair landscape becomes less and less dynamic, Paris Internationale provides a much-needed dose of eccentricity. Closer in size and scope to LISTE — which runs parallel to Art Basel — than to Independent, the New York and Brussels fair, the 2016 edition of Paris Internationale has its highs and lows — all the better for us to spot our favorites this year.
