The art world's latest start up, an Airbnb for artists

Article
You are an artist, but don’t have a studio. You have space at your place, and you love art. David Guez and Anne Roquigny are your guys. The man behind hostanartist.com talks to H A P P E N I N G. The idea is simple: artists’ residencies, in your place. And, all around the world. In exchange for the service, the artists donates an artwork to the host.

Why ?

“Artists are constantly looking for residencies, and the idea is to find a different model than an official residence. The art-loving public generally don’t have access to artists,” explains Guez.

On their site, there are two types of profiles: artists and hosts. Artists share their portfolio and CV on the platform. The “ads” are for the most part published in English and French.

To clarify the mutual agreement, different contract types are available on the site.

And the financing?

Still in the process of being launched, an initial idea is that the artist at each residence pays a contribution, which could be as little as €50. Subsequently, partnerships would then be established with regional, art centers. "Perhaps by offering a private service in a city that wants to commission a work, etc."

To finance its development, the founders have launched a Kickstarter campaign.

What’s next?

In the future, the platform hopes to extend to broader collaborations, included an exchange of services for participating artists.
