June 22 | Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern evening sale totals £103.3 million

Auction house Sotheby’s has once again proved that the art market is in fairly good health.

Tuesday’s  Impressionist and Modern evening sale in London has in fact totalled £90.7million, (£103.3 million with buyer’s premium) surpassing the pre-sale estimation of £81.8 - £99 million. The sale was led by two star paintings: Picasso’s Femme Assise (1909) and Modigliani’s Jeanne Hebuterne, (Au Foulard) (1919) which sold for £38.5 and £34.3 million respectively. The sale of the Picasso sets a new auction record for a cubist painting. Read more on The Art Newspaper.

A new world record was also set for Japanese prints: Kitagawa Utamaro’s Deeply Hidden Love sold for €745,800 on Tuesday evening at the Drouot salesrooms in Paris, as part of a sale organized by Beaussant Lefèvre in association with Christie’s. The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) has announced the addition of nine new members to its roster: ltd los angeles, Mier Gallery, Moran Bondaroff, The Pit, Kristen Lorello (NY), Lyles & King (NY), Kai Matsuma (NY), Parisian Laundry (Montreal), and Document (Chicago) will join the association. Pernod Ricard and Villa Vassilieff have announced the list of members of the Artistic Committee for the second edition of the Pernod Ricard Fellowship — its program including “a 3-month residency in a private studio at Villa Vassilieff, a €6,000 grant to cover living expenses in Paris, a €5,000 production and research grant, as well one or two round-trips to Paris”. The 2017 committee is composed of Sunjung Kim, Victoria Noorthoorn, Benjamin Seroussi, Bisi Silva, Bernard Blistène, Colette Barbier and Mélanie Bouteloup. e-flux has more information.
