Artist Gal Weinstein has been chosen to represent Israel at the 57th edition of the Venice Biennale.

Though the artist has not disclosed the details of his winning proposal, his site-specific installation might address the current political situation in Israel. The artist had already represented his country in 2002 on the occasion of the 25th Sao Paolo Biennale. The Israeli pavilion will be curated by Tami Katz-Friedman. More on artnet news.

Frieze London and Frieze Masters have announced a number of exciting new projects for their 2016 edition. The fairs have entered a new partnership with The Contemporary Art Society, whereby the Collections Fund at Frieze will provide a £50.000 grant to purchase a work of art at the next edition of the fair. In addition, artists Sibylle Berg & Claus Richter, Coco Fusco, Martin Soto Climent, Julie Verhoeven, Samson Young, and Yuri Pattison have been commissioned to create new works for Frieze London. Lastly, Frieze London will also launch a new section — “The 90s” — which will revisit major exhibitions from the last decade of the 20th century. Artnet news has more information.

Paris Photo — the international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium — has announced the exhibitor list for its 20th edition, taking place at Le Grand Palais between November 10 and 13, 2016. This year, the fair will welcome 170 of the world’s leading galleries and art book leaders, including 42 new exhibitors, among which Baudoin Lebon, (Paris) Del Infinito, (Buenos Aires) Continua, (San Gimignano, Beijing, Les Moulins, Havana) Dvir (Tel Aviv) and Janet Borden. Nigerian artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby is this year’s recipient of the $11,000 Prix Canson Prize for art on paper — established in 2010 by paper company Canson. Los Angeles-based Akunyili Crosby was chosen out of five nominees by a jury composed of international curators and led by Brett Littman, executive director of the Drawing Center, where the award ceremony took place on Tuesday night. After three years at the 1925 Bank Union Building in Shanghai, BANK gallery — founded by New York and Shanghai-based writer and curator Mathieu Borysevicz — is being evicted due to the recent governmental approval of a policy that bans private entities from renting state-owned properties. The 2017 edition of Art Cologne has been postponed by a day to avoid clashing its schedule with Berlin Gallery Weekend. Next year’s edition will now run between April 25 and 29, whilst the Berlin event will open on April 28 and close on the 30th. More on Art Forum.

British artist Clara Dummond is the winner of the 2016 edition of the BP Portrait Award — awarding contemporary drawing portraiture. The artist — who won with her portrait Girl in a Liberty Dress — will receive a £30,000 prize and a commission by London’s National Portrait Gallery. Read more on The Independent.
