Last April, art advisor Vanessa Buia — of Vanessa Buia LLC Art Advisory — bought two works by graffiti artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly) for a total $350,000 from Mary Boone Gallery, alleging she was acting on behalf of a prestigious collector. After the two works appeared at Galerie Laurent Strouk in Paris, Boone sued Buia, claiming that the art advisor’s claims about the named buyer were false, and adding that the gallery would have never sold works to an “unimportant collection” and that the exhibition interfered with KAWS’ relationship with another Parisian gallery — KAWS is represented by Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris. Buia filed a countersuit, citing client confidentiality, her attorney adding that Boone’s “Donald Trump-styled 'bully lawsuit” fails to “detail any real facts and verges upon the pathetic”. Boone is seeking $60,000 for fraudulent inducement and fraud, plus interest, costs, and fees. More details on Court House News.
