The organizers of Turkey’s Çanakkale Biennial have announced today that the fifth edition of the event, originally set to open on September 24, is being cancelled.

The news comes after previous assurances from the director, Beral Madra, that the biennial would be going ahead, despite Turkey’s current unstable political situation. Further details via Art Forum.

Following the dramatic Brexit vote this summer, one of the UK’s most prominent and successful museum directors, Martin Roth, has announced his resignation today. The museum’s first non-British director, German-born Roth had condemned the charged rhetoric that was employed in the run-up to the EU referendum. Berlin-based gallery Wentrup has announced that it will be expanding to a new, underground space located at Potsdamer Straße in the city’s Tiergarten gallery district. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma has announced that it is has received a donation of 30 works from the private collection of Ed Ruscha and his wife Danna. Aris Messinis’ emotive photographs documenting the arrival of migrants on the island of Lesbos last year have won him France’s prestigious Visa d’Or prize for news photography.
